Assane Diop is your starting point

Lupin follows Assane Diop, played by Omar Sy, as he pursues a response to an injustice involving his father. Netflix describes a contemporary character inspired by the adventures of Arsène Lupin, the gentleman thief. The connection is literary inspiration, rather than a reason to assume this is a straightforward retelling of one older story.

You can begin without reading the books. Keep the difference between Assane and his inspiration in mind: a character can borrow an ideal, a method or a sense of possibility from fiction while facing problems particular to his own life. That is a more useful entry question than trying to identify every reference immediately.

Three positions in a deception

A deception can be followed through three positions: what Assane intends, what the observer expects and what the audience has actually been shown. Those positions may briefly align, then separate. Instead of trying to outguess every maneuver, ask which expectation makes a plan possible. Clothing, a role or a confident manner can prompt an assumption before someone has checked the evidence. This is a way to understand the craft of a caper while leaving its specific tricks undisclosed; it also gives Assane’s literary inspiration a function beyond an Easter egg.

How to follow a story about deception

At the same time, keep the personal objective separate from the immediate trick. A successful maneuver may solve a practical problem while making a relationship more difficult. That distinction gives a caper a human scale and helps a discussion move beyond whether a particular escape seems possible.

Parts, rather than a random episode

Start with Part 1 and follow Netflix’s numbered sequence. The service uses “Parts” for the chapters listed on its title page. If you search by an informal season number elsewhere, check that the result actually refers to the same chapter.

What has been announced next?

Netflix’s August 31, 2026 announcement gives October 23, 2026 as the release date for Part 4. At this guide’s September 6 check, that is an upcoming release, not a chapter we describe as already available. The announcement is linked below so you can verify any later change directly.

If you are starting for the first time, treat the next chapter as a reason to find the opening episode rather than as a reason to watch a new trailer immediately. Publicity aimed at returning viewers can assume knowledge of earlier developments, including where the central relationships stand.

Choosing language and checking access

French audio with subtitles lets you hear the original performances while following the plot. Choose a different available audio track if that makes viewing more comfortable. The practical priority is being able to follow the dialogue without repeatedly losing sight of an action or an expression.

The official Netflix title page is the viewing route for this US edition. Check access in your own account, since a French production label and a worldwide publicity announcement do not, on their own, establish every country’s catalogue. We use the French connection to describe the work, while the US edition determines the viewing information.

Follow the deception and the reason behind it

Lupin offers two threads to follow together: the craft of deception and the personal reason for using it. Begin with Assane in Part 1, enjoy discovering how a plan depends on other people’s expectations, and leave later-chapter promotion until you have caught up. The next release date belongs to the official announcement, not to a rumor-driven countdown.
